WHO DOES TSCM INSPECTIONS?

There are three general categories of people who conduct TSCM sweeps; private investigators, security companies and dedicated TSCM specialists. You can call any private investigator and ask if they do “bug sweeping” and they will all say they do. Most have very little experience, knowledge or equipment. If TSCM doesn’t account for a significant portion of their business, they’re amateurs. Likewise you can call any major security firm and they will say they have this service. Those with any integrity will subcontract a real professional to do the job. Most, however, will purchase their own equipment, send some of their more intelligent guards to a short school to learn what buttons to press, and then to your sight to conduct the inspection. This is more impressive (because of the higher grade equipment) than the amateur P.I. but no better, usually worse. Finally there are the specialists. They can be P.I.’s who specialize in TSCM or dedicated TSCM specialists. They have the experience, training, knowledge and equipment to do a professional job.
